The OWASP Mentorship Program will foster meaningful connections between experienced professionals and emerging leaders, reinforce OWASP’s mission, and expand its global influence through structured knowledge sharing and community advocacy. 

About Mentorship Program Working Group

1. Purpose 

In celebration of OWASP’s 25th year, this proposal introduces a structured, global mentorship initiative designed to strengthen technical excellence, career growth, and community engagement across the OWASP ecosystem. 

The OWASP Mentorship Program will foster meaningful connections between experienced professionals and emerging leaders, reinforce OWASP’s mission, and expand its global influence through structured knowledge sharing and community advocacy. 

Beginning in the 25th anniversary year, the program will operate biannually as an ongoing OWASP initiative. 

 

2. Program Structure 

The program will run in two cycles each year: 

  • Summer Cycle: July – December 

  • Winter Cycle: January – June 

Each cycle will run for six months. 

For the 25th anniversary launch: 

  • 25 Mentors 

  • 25 Mentees 

Future cohort sizes may increase based on community response and operational capacity. 

 

3. Mentorship Tracks 

Participants may select one of the following tracks: 

Technical Mentorship 

  • Application Security 

  • AI Security 

  • Specific OWASP Projects  

  • Research & Standards 

Non-Technical / Career Mentorship 

  • Career roadmap planning 

  • Leadership development 

  • Industry navigation 

  • Public speaking and community building 

  • Networking and ecosystem positioning
