June Private Board Meetings 2026

Marisa Fagan provides this summary of the private board meeting at the public Board meeting.

The board had a full schedule and discussed several operational and governance topics of public interest.

Key topics included:

• Completion of the community policy review policy, which would unlock broader policy review work.
• Membership trends, retention risks, and growth opportunities.
• Committee operations and alignment with committee policy.
• Student chapters, including standards for opening and maintaining chapters and a renewed commitment to supporting them.
• The proposed Industry Advisory Council and next steps.
• An AI impact assessment covering OWASP’s mission, events, projects, education, funding, governance, and partnership opportunities.
• Board travel cost reductions, in response to rising travel expenses.

The first Global/EU board meeting was delayed until 12:30 on June 24, 2026. Present were Andrew van der Stock, Diego Martins, Ashwini Siddhi, Marisa Fagan, Ricardo Griffith, Steve Springett, and Sam Stepanyan. The meeting was held in person at the Global AppSec Vienna 2026 conference.

The primary focus of this private Board meeting was to work out the split of duties and responsibilities between OWASP Operations Europe and the OWASP Foundation. The main focus of the meeting was to ensure the need for the OWASP Operations Europe and the OWASP Foundation to develop an intercompany memo that satisfies both the IRS and the Belgian tax authorities. The Board also discussed the need to ensure that OWASP Operations Europe and the OWASP Foundation have a clear understanding of their respective roles and responsibilities, and that they are able to work together effectively to achieve the goals of the OWASP Foundation, with a view to eventually running AppSec Days EU events and eventually Global AppSec EU events through the EU entity for VAT effectiveness reasons, and to provide invoicing to EU companies. A clear issue was how to price the transfer for invoicing in Euros to the US entity, which will provide the services. This needs to be worked on.
