Welcome to the OWASP Student Chapter at RV University!
Chapter Launch Date: March 12, 2025
We are excited to announce the establishment of the OWASP Student Chapter at RV University, dedicated to fostering a community of students passionate about web application security. As part of the global Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), we aim to enhance the understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices among our members.
Our Mission
Our mission is to promote awareness and education in web application security through:

Participation
The Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP) is a nonprofit foundation that works to improve the security of software. All of our projects, tools, documents, forums, and chapters are free and open to anyone interested in improving application security.
Chapters are led by local leaders in accordance with the Chapters Policy. Financial contributions should only be made online using the authorized online donation button.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in our Projects, Local Chapters, Events, Online Groups, and Community Slack Channel. We especially encourage diversity in all our initiatives. OWASP is a fantastic place to learn about application security, to network, and even to build your reputation as an expert. We also encourage you to be become a member or consider a donation to support our ongoing work.

OWASP Student Chapter Report
The Day When the True Spirit Kickstarts!
Date: 6 February 2026

The OWASP RVU Student Chapter conducted its inaugural cybersecurity event, “The Day When the True Spirit Kickstarts!”, with the objective of cultivating awareness, encouraging innovation, and strengthening ethical security practices among students.
The program was smoothly coordinated by Sri Govinth, who ensured seamless transitions and sustained audience engagement throughout the session.
Introduction to OWASP
The event opened with an introduction to OWASP, its global mission, and its role in promoting secure software development. Participants learned how open collaboration, freely available resources, and community-driven initiatives help strengthen cybersecurity practices across industries.
This session established a strong foundation for the technical discussions that followed.
Project Presentation – Impact Scanner
Presenter: Arnav Jain
Arnav Jain presented Impact Scanner, an AI-assisted code vulnerability scanner designed to analyze entire repositories and identify security weaknesses.
Key Capabilities:
- Identification of insecure coding patterns
- Severity-based vulnerability prioritization
- Context-aware explanations
- Automated, audit-ready report generation
The session demonstrated how artificial intelligence can significantly reduce manual effort while improving vulnerability detection accuracy. Audience questions focused on scalability, integrations, and future enhancements.
Technical Awareness Session – Discovering Exposed WebcamXP Cameras
Presenter: Druthi Avadhani
This session demonstrated how exposed IP cameras can be discovered using Shodan by querying services such as WebcamXP.
Key Topics Covered:
- Internet-wide scanning and metadata exposure
- Common misconfigurations leading to device exposure
- Ethical responsibility in security research
Preventive Measures Discussed:
- Avoid direct internet exposure of devices
- Change default credentials
- Enforce strong authentication
- Configure firewall rules correctly
- Use VPNs for remote access
Interactive Competition – Lakera Gandalf Prompt Injection Challenge
Hosts: Suviksha V B & Harnith S L
This gamified challenge introduced participants to prompt injection and AI red-teaming concepts through an engaging, hands-on activity.
Outcomes:

- Promoted teamwork
- Introduced real-world AI security risks
- Made complex concepts approachable

The event concluded with an inspiring address emphasizing ethical responsibility, real-world security incidents, and continuous learning in cybersecurity.
Conclusion
